Sensual Art

Glute Nation

SEVENHEAVEN by Augustine Partida
I recently arrived in the small community of Pahaoa, on the Big Island in Hawaii. My roommate and gardener on the property Augustine Partida, 'Auggie' shared with me some of his artwork.

He has some pieces which he said he started 20 years ago. Truly amazing stuff. He does carvings of out of wood and coral. Some of the work is yet to be completed.

But the most intriguing and amazing works are his paintings. He paints using acrylic paint on canvas. One of his paintings depict fantasy butterflies. It is amazing when you look closely at the painting it is actually done using the Pointillism method of painting, like I had seen before done by Australian aboriginal artists.

The paintings are done by not using broad brush strokes. The images are created by 'dots'.
I could appreciate the work that would have gone into each square inch of his work. And the overall paintings was something to behold. One of his paintings he says he has about 700 hours put into it and he is still not done with it.

The the most astounding feature of Augustine Partida's paintings are his work has another dimension. In natural light the painting is brilliant, however when you bring a 'fluorescent black light' to the painting it shows a very different and even more beautiful fantasy design that is embedded in the painting. You got to see it to believe it. The wow factor built into his work.

A quick check on Wikipidia, has this to say about the artistic style:

Pointillism
is a style of painting in which small distinct points of primary colors create the impression of a wide selection of secondary and intermediate colors. Aside from color "mixing" phenomena, there is the simpler graphic phenomena of depicted imagery emerging from disparate points. Historically, Pointillism has been a figurative mode of executing a painting, as opposed to an abstract modality of expression.

Pointillism has been around for some time. UV light Pointillism is a first or is very rare.
I am sure this artist has something very unique.

For the purpose of this blog I took a few pictures with my cell phone and and then edited it best I could with Photo Shop. It does not do justice to the brilliance of this unassuming local artist from the Big Island. I will use a better quality digital camera in the coming week to update the site. In the meantime I just wanted to share his work with Our Universe.

Have a look for your self.
